A Lesson in Sanitation: TeVA Photo

The title of this photo is "A Lesson in Sanitation at the Country Store". For people who know me, the title of the photo explains itself. All I have to say is that I would have loved to have listened in on that lesson!

Mash-up practice

I made this some time ago when Nettie McGowan still worked here (and sat next to me). We always joked that our cubicle area was a vortex of "Bad" energy because we both had the worst luck. Let that be a warning to whomever wants to share the cubicle next to mine - bad luck may accompany the window seat. :-)

I thought this was simply genius. I love it! Annapolis is also my home from my younger days. I lived outside of Annapolis from 1985-1996. I think you have to download Google Earth to do this, but it is a great way to log/preserve memories.

Genealogy in a Wired World - Epson's Creative LearningZone

For our TEL exercise, I searched the subject Genealogy. My thought was maybe I could find some helpful resources on the web and I found this!

"Epson Introduces Free Online Courses to Help Consumers Use Technology to Preserve and Share Family Memories. (Company overview)" from Business Wire magazine (August 1, 2007). This link might get you back to it http://tinyurl.com/2udaey

From the article:

Four initial courses will be available at the Epson Creative LearningZone beginning August 3, and new courses will be added to the site on a monthly basis. Pre-registration for the following courses is available now at http://www.creativelearningzone.com/:
* Digital Photography Made Simple

* Getting Started With Digital Scrapbooking
* Genealogy In a Wired World
* Set up a Home Print Shop for Flyers, Newsletters and More

I thought this was kind of neat and wanted to share in case any of our staff or patrons were interested.

Testing Testing

Hello Everybody! Welcome to my blog!

As part of this first blog entry, I decided to answer the question "Of the 7 1/2 Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners, which habits are the easiest and hardest for you & why?"

Habit 1 - setting Goals - is probably the easiest habit for me, whether the learning activity is for business or pleasure. What is probably hardest for me is Habit 5 - Path to the Goal. I would like to learn a new language. I would like to work through a list of postcolonial literature. You know, I really need to familiarize myself with PHP. But what is hard is structuring my "play" with "target dates for completion". These two concepts seem to be diametrically opposed!!

But my recent journey back to school for my graduate degree taught me more than just about cataloging and information retrieval. It showed me that:

  1. I have a LOT more time than I thought I had.
  2. That something important to me is deserving of both my time and attention. What does that mean? Perhaps our "play" requires a bit of scheduling, a little structure, or a few "target dates for completion" so that it doesn't get lost among the many obstacles that help us put these important learning activities off.

Anyway, those are my thoughts for this week. See you next post!
